Durham’s Full Frame Documentary Film Festival, Wilmington’s Cucalorus and Winston-Salem’s RiverRun were three of the more than 350 arts programs and projects from across North Carolina that will divide $7.4 million in N.C. Arts Council grants for the coming year, the state announced August 9.

This past spring, filmmaker David Gordon Green received the Emerging Master Award at the RiverRun International Film Festival in Winston-Salem. The ceremony was held on the campus of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, Green’s alma matter, following the 10th anniversary screening of his first feature, “George Washington,” which was shot in Winston-Salem.

The Charlotte Film Festival is heading into a milestone year of sorts as it prepares to raise the curtain on its fifth annual festival. Its second go-round as a week-long enterprise, this year’s festival will run from September 20-26 and feature a slate of films that includes favorites from Sundance, Cannes, South by Southwest and beyond.
